Sometimes I look at our family calendar and wonder if I am crazy! I will admit that Older Brother participates in quite a few activities, and most days my husband I spend our time shuttling him from one side of town to the next while Younger Brother alternates between fussing in his car seat or sleeping. At the current time Younger Brother is babbling in the backseat full from dinner, Older Brother is texting his cousins in Virginia, Kelvin is driving, and I am enjoying the lull before Older Brother leaves for three consecutive weeks of camp.
While planning summer activities for older brother, I went a bit overboard when choosing programs and signed him up for 4 different week long overnight camps, and his annual week long music workshop in Galveston, TX, in addition to a week in Quebec with the Houston Children's Chorus. Older brother was thrilled from day one with the camp selections, I was happy for his happy and Kelvin was annoyed that his oldest child would be away from home for 6 of the 12 weeks of summer vacation.
Two weeks after the end of the school year Older Brother spent a week in Galveston singing and exploring Galveston Island. He spent a week at home before flying to Canada with his chorus before sliding seamlessly into a week at Duke Tip Crisis camp in Georgetown, TX.
I'm exactly two days, as I have just been reminded, Younger Brother and I will drop Older Brother off at camp in the Piney Woods of East Texas. Older Brother won't return home for three weeks as he will attend next Chinese Youth Camp followed by another week of outdoor activities at yet another camp.
I hope that this will be Older Brother's BEST SUMMER EVER, or at least one that is rich with experiences.
I am not an evening person, by 8:30 I am irritable and ready to fall into bed next to Younger One Brother who probably nursed himself to sleep an hour or so earlier. Anyway, unlike most people I don’t make lunches, or iron clothing the night before. I awaken at 4:00AM, and try to cram as much as possible into the 2 hours and 45 minutes before we leave in the morning, and this includes making fresh, often hot breakfast & lunch for the boys, ironing all of our clothing, and ensuring that Younger One and I are bathed or showered.
Two weeks ago I reached my limit as I stood in the closet wondering just what I would wear for the day. I grabbed something horrible, quickly ironed it, and spent the entire day in agony. I have lost 90 pounds since February 2016, and I have not taken the time to shop for clothing. I am still nursing the 17 month old, so I am relegated to two piece outfits or button down dresses. My wardrobe is screaming for assistance.
While perusing the internet I came across two different styles of black dresses; one with sleeves, and the other without. The sleeveless dress is for weekends and the sleeved dress is for me to wear to work Monday-Thursday. I purchased four of each. Friday is wear a university T-shirt day, so I did not require a fifth dress. This is my first week wearing the same style of dress every day, and I don’t think that anyone in my office has noticed. I will drop off the worn dresses at the cleaner’s tomorrow morning and begin Monday without having to iron my clothes. Maybe I should also drop of the children’s clothing!
My bathroom selfie skills are not the best, but what do you think??
LIfe is what I make of it!
